Proper packaging plays an important role in the safe transportation of goods. If a parcel is insufficiently protected, poorly secured, or incorrectly labeled, this may result in damage or even refusal by the carrier to accept the shipment.
✔ Use new, sturdy cardboard boxes of the appropriate size. A box that is too large may cause items to shift around inside, increasing the risk of damage.
✔ The optimal thickness of the box walls is at least 10 mm. This ensures sufficient rigidity and allows for correct marking.
✔ If you are using a used box, make sure that it has no damage, tears, or weak spots.
✔ The bottom of the box should be well reinforced, for example, with several layers of packing tape.
✔ Wrap each item separately in bubble wrap or paper packaging.
✔ Fill any empty spaces inside the box with soft materials: kraft paper, air cushions, polystyrene granules.
✔ For glass and fragile items, use additional dividers or special cardboard inserts.
✔ Be sure to mark fragile items with the appropriate labels: “Fragile” and “Handle with Care.”
✔ Use “This Way Up” stickers to indicate the correct position of the box during transport.
✔ Do not place labels on the corners of the box – they must be clearly visible on a flat surface.
✔ Use wide, high-strength packing tape
✔ Be sure to glue all joints and seams in the shape of the letter “H” – this will increase the strength of the packaging.
✔ For heavy parcels, use additional straps to prevent the box from accidentally opening.
✔ Plastic pallets are best suited for international transport, as they do not require additional certification.
✔ If you use wooden pallets, they must comply with the international standard ISPM15 (have the appropriate marking).
✔ Before use, check the pallet for defects that could affect the stability of the load.
✔ Distribute the load evenly, avoiding concentrating all the weight in one place.
✔ Heavy items should be placed at the bottom, lighter items at the top. This will help prevent the load from shifting during transport.
✔ The cargo must not protrude beyond the edges of the pallet – this can cause problems during loading and also lead to additional costs in the form of handling surcharges.
✔ Use stretch film, wrapping the load several times around the entire perimeter to ensure its stability.
✔ For large and heavy loads, use tie-down straps or plastic straps – they will help prevent the load from shifting during transport.
✔ For unstable or fragile items, use protective corners, cardboard inserts, or additional padding between items.
✔ To prevent friction between items, use cardboard or foam spacers.
✔ Cover the top of the pallet with protective film, cardboard, or a wooden sheet, especially for cargo that’s sensitive to dust or moisture.
✔ Clearly mark each side of the cargo
✔ Do not cover the label with stretch film – this may make it blurry and difficult to read
